Breakdown
Julian Erosa vs. Devonte Smith
Tonight’s fight is the 25th anniversary of the first UFC fight ever. It was in Denver, Colorado on November 12th 1993. Hard to believe it’s 25 years since the first UFC event. I remember being eighteen years old when watching the PPV at the restaurent's Cages aux Sports in Quebec city. Never seen anything like it before, and I instantly became captivated.
Smith (8-1) is 25 and he’s making his UFC debut. The American is one a four-fight win streak right now and earned his spot in the UFC after a KO win on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series. All eight of his pro wins have come by stoppage including a KO win over UFC vet Justin Edwards on the regional circuit.
Erosa (22-5) is 29 and he’s 1-1 in the UFC. The American is making his return to the UFC after a knockout win on the Contender Series and overall has gone 7-2 since his first stint in the UFC. Erosa has more experience and is a dangerous fighter to be sure, but I believe Smith has more upside, and I’ll take him to get a big knockout win in his Octagon debut.
