Eleider Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev

Breakdown

Eleider Alvarez vs. Sergey Kovalev

Eleider Alvarez (24-0; 12 KO) faces Sergey Kovalev (32-3-1; 28 KO). The Colombia native will put his WBO light heavyweight title on the line for the first time against the man he dethroned, Sergey Kovalev, in a direct rematch at The Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

The odds have taken quite a shift from their first meeting after Alvarez proved himself profitable as he closed at +400 while the champ at the time, Kovalev, entered the ring as a -600 favorite. Now, Krusher is an underdog for the first time since his two bouts with Andre Ward, both of which ended in defeat for the Russian.

Kovalev will definitely have his moments, though. Don’t get me wrong, he absolutely can win this. I have a feeling Kovalev will be more cautious and that will see the fight go longer, so this is why I am betting on the over this time. It should be a really good, technical fight though. Eleider Alvarez by unanimous decision.

Outcome:

Sergey Kovalev defeats Eleider Alvarez via unanimous decision (120-108, 116-112, 116-112).

Sergey Kovalev is a champion again. The 35-year-old came up with a dominant unanimous-decision win in the rematch with Alvarez to regain the WBO light heavyweight title on Saturday in Frisco, Texas. The jab was the most effective weapon in Kovalev's arsenal. He used it as a range finder, space-keeper, and a timing-disruptor. Alvarez never looked comfortable and he struggled to get off his punches the entire night.
